At University College Hospital, education is provided to school-aged inpatients on the pediatric floor (T11) and adolescent floor (T12). We also teach, by arrangement, the youth attending the Macmillan Cancer Center on Huntley Street.

The permanent and part-time staff are complemented by regular visits from Connexions, artists, musicians, museum outreach services and a range of distance / online learning resources.

School goals

The Children’s Hospital School seeks to minimize interruptions and disruptions in the education of children and youth so that academic progress and interest in learning continues, as medical circumstances require it. allow.

To achieve this, we aim to:

  2. Integrating learning into a student’s hospital stay
  3. Foster the values of friendship and determination
  4. Prepare and empower students now and for the future
  5. Support, nourish and value families and caregivers

age range

We teach students of legal school age from grades 1 to 13 inclusive. Long-term, recurring pupils, younger or older than the legal school age, may be enrolled if they have a declaration of special educational needs / educational health care plan.

There are well-equipped classrooms at T11 and T12 and all beds on both floors have internet access.

Teaching hours

Classrooms are organized to accommodate small groups of students, and have fixed but flexible schedules.

Long-term and recurrent pupils who do not have access to classrooms can be educated in the service. The length of individual teaching time in the service depends on many factors (state of health, length of stay, examination conditions, special educational needs, availability of teachers, etc.) but is approximately one hour per day.
