UCLA named the nation’s # 1 public school by US News – CBS Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – UCLA was named the nation’s No. 1 public university by US News & World Report on Monday for the fifth year in a row.
In total, six schools in the University of California system made it to the top 10. UC Berkeley came in at No. 2 and UC Santa Barbara came in at No. 5. UC San Diego, UC Irvine, and UC Davis came in. eighth, ninth and tenth on the list, respectively.

âUCLA’s ranking as the nation’s best public university for five consecutive years reaffirms what we already know: that this is a place where students from all walks of life can thrive, where we invest and support great education and where we prepare students for success after graduation, âUCLA Chancellor Gene Block said in a statement. “I hope everyone in our community is proud of what this ranking represents.”
Among national universities overall, UCLA came in at No. 20.

USC was tied for 27th, UC San Diego tied for 34th, UC Irvine tied for 36th and Pepperdine University in Malibu tied for 49th.
âThese rankings underscore the world-class education provided by UC,â UC President Michael V. Drake said in a statement. âAccess, affordability and excellence remain hallmarks of the University. We are delighted that US News and World Report continues to recognize UC for its achievements. “
