Roque fights for public school teacher pay rise – Roque
UniTeam senatorial candidate Harry Roque is reportedly pushing for a pay raise for public school teachers and professors at state universities and colleges (SUC).
Roque, a former full-time professor at the University of the Philippines-College of Law for 15 years, assured teachers of the increase provided by the government standardization law.
Roque has taught public international and constitutional law and also served as director of the Institute for International Legal Studies at UP Law Center.
Roque admitted that the salary of professors in CUS is not enough.
“Alam ko po na ang suweldo natin a palaging hindi sapat kaya po pag-aaralan natin na baka pwedeng itaas ang teacher salary grade nang sa ganon makakuha sila ng mas mataas na sahod sang-ayon po sa government standardization law,” he said in an interview with IBC 13 on Thursday.
If elected, Roque said he would use his position and his practice of law to improve the lives of every Filipino.
“You must know why there is the law. You should know that the law is there because it advances the interest of humanity, and more importantly, I use the law to do justice,” Roque said.
“I know the law and I know how to use it to make a difference”, he underlined.
