Among all the facilities, the school offers foreign scholarships to deserving students aged 16 and over for high school studies abroad, where they are to live with foreign families and explore their culture. Dhar says the school is the only institution in the region to have launched this initiative allowing students to explore and earn money in foreign places.

“Out of 30 students across India, 3 students are from DPS Srinagar who go to Japan to further their education every year. The students are settled in various cities around the country where they attend high school and stay with Japanese people. , parents don’t have to pay anything at school, ”he said.

The school is the first in the country to derive its electricity from solar energy. The school library houses 50,000 books on a wide range of subjects. It also owns a robotics lab which won a 22 lakh award from NITI Aayog. The school also introduced several new subjects like journalism, information technology and agriculture. He said, “The national average back then was 14%, but now it’s 16%. The fee setting committee should visit the schools and see the facilities we provide and set the fees accordingly. Dhar said the school went through several difficult times and passed all obstacles. “We performed well during Covid-19 and the unrest. In 2014 we had drastic flooding but just after a month we were back in action. We even survived an armed attack on the school building in 2017, ”he said.

Dhar did his own schooling at SafaKadal and went on to study engineering in Chennai. The Safakadal school did not teach English at the time.
