[ad_1]
MADISON, Mississippi (WJTV) – The Germantown High School Academy of Health Care Excellence is a program that offers a preparatory college program for students interested in careers in health care.
The program provides students with a real-life experience. Recently, the students were able to speak with the medical staff who provide ambulance transport by helicopter. Essence Baker is a student in the program. She said she enjoyed meeting the staff.
âWe got to experience AirCare at our school which is phenomenal,â said Baker. âI thought the AirCare would be bigger. It was amazing how they reduced everything.
Melinda Brady is a teacher in the program. She said the students learn a lot.
âIn ninth grade, we do a lot of infection control, medical terminology, and learn the basics,â Brady said. âGrade 10 is a lot of anatomy and physiology. Grade 11 is where students can choose their skills – clinical services or sports medicine.
Sophia Gueieri is an elder of the program. She said it solidified her career choice.
âI want to get into pediatric oncology and help diagnose and treat cancer,â Gueieri said.
Gueieri leaves the prepared program. She is now certified in CPR and first aid.
Students participate in field trips, observe health professionals, and conduct community service activities.
